Under the Sea: Ariel Storylook Palette by Sephora

A couple of weeks ago, I got a package in the mail from Sephora. It wasn't one that I was expecting, but I was expecting a birthday package from my boyfriend. FROM SEPHORA? He knows me way too well. But what could he have gotten me? I don't remember telling him anything about wanting something specific from there. And the box was way too big for a gift card.

Anyway, I was astonished to find the Ariel Storylook Palette when I opened it! As it turns out, he actually read my blog and saw the Wishlist Wednesday post I made about it. I - just - wow. Major boyfriend points there. I mean, there was definitely some arm-flapping and odd noises made when I saw what it was. It was embarrassing. Good thing my whole family was there to see it.

The Sephora Ariel Storylook palette comes in a tray that slide outs from its decorative box. The box is one of my favorite things about this palette! It's embossed, shiny, and really nice art. The box that it came in is even nicer...

The palette features twenty shades inspired by Disney's The Little Mermaid. It has really fun names like Les Poissons, Sea Witch, and Sick of Swimmin'.

Though most of these shadows are nicely pigmented, a handful of them are chalky (especially the matte colors). The formulation for the metallic/satin finish shadows is actually very rich and buttery. All of the shadows, however, are quite powdery, so they're not the cleanest to work with. However, I do enjoy the mix of neutrals and colors and find them to be nicely versatile. The best shadows, formulation wise, are Triton, the gorgeous, velvety gold, and Your Voice, a solid silver. My next favorites are Les Poissons, Scuttle, and  Sick of Swimmin'.

Here are two looks I created with this palette:

Wanderin' Free all over lid, Les Poissons in crease, Flounder in inner corner and browbone, Ursula along lower lash line.

Blue Lagoon on outer third, Flounder on inner third and browbone, Unfortunate Souls and Caspian Sea in crease,  Unfortunate Souls on lower lash line.
Overall, this is a fun palette. The shadows aren't the nicest that I've worked with. It might not be so, but that doesn't mean it's not worth using. I would not be something that I would reach for on a daily basis (just because the packaging makes it difficult to access in a hurry), but I will definitely reserve it for when I have a longer length of time to do my makeup. Because, come on. It's The Little Mermaid.

Did you manage to snag this palette (or any of the past Sephora Storylook palettes?) I'm curious! Let me know in a comment!

Feel free to check out some of my other reviews here.

As always, thanks for reading!
Until next time,

Keep in touch!
