For when you're feeling stuck...

It's easy to feel stuck in life sometimes. We live in the age of the newsfeed, and we're often bombarded with the exciting news of promotions, new jobs, engagements, and even babies. It's easy to feel inadquate when there's nothing exciting to report on your end. Whether you're feeling stuck because you're unemployed, underemployed, or you just wish you were at a different place in your life right now, here are some ideas to get you going again.

Take a deep breath.
If you're feeling overwhelmed, it's important to take a step back and realize that these things are temporary. You aren't going to feel this way forever, even though it might feel like it. Relax, baby. You can fix this.

Understand that it's not just you.
People on social media tend to only share the good things that happen, so recognize that everybody has their ups and downs. Besides, there are probably plenty of others in your situation as well: lots of recent graduates are having a hard time finding jobs, plenty of people are stuck in jobs that they aren't too fond of, and others still are exploring ways to go back to school. There are thousands (if not millions!) of people at a crossroads at this very moment, and we're all doing our best to figure it out. You're not the only one, I promise.

Identify what you can change.
If you're feeling isolated, reach out to an old friend and grab some coffee, or call someone on the phone to chat. If you don't like your job, start looking elsewhere. Feeling unfulfilled? Explore some new hobbies. If you don't like the way your life is going, you are more than welcome to change it. No one else is going to do it for you.

Focus on the positive.
Thankfully, feelings of being stuck are temporary. Be thankful for what you do have, be it your health, your friends, or that mean batch of cookies you know how to bake. When you're feeling especially down or stressed, take it easy and do something nice for yourself.

Above all, it's important to remember that you won't be stuck in a rut forever. Don't be too hard on yourself! You will figure it all out when the time is right.

What do you do when you're feeling stuck?
